BEDROOM

A large rug that fills most of the floor space is ideal. You can place the rug underneath the night stands or let the rug extend a bit past the foot of the bed. The most important thing to consider is having a comfortable landing for your feet when climbing in and out of bed. Another economical solution is to add two runners on either side of the bed.

DINING ROOM

Here, you'll always want your rug to extend well beyond the table and chairs, keeping chair legs from catching on the rug when pulled in and out. An 8’ x 10’ rug is a common choice under a rectangular dining table.

KITCHEN & ENTRYWAY

Kitchens get a lot of foot traffic, so a small 2’ x 3’ rug in front of the sink keeps the space tidy while adding some support where it’s needed. Alternatively, if you have a galley kitchen or an island, a runner makes a perfect floor covering for the full length of the space. Add a runner to your entryway if the space allows to add color and depth.

LIVING ROOM

For an open floor plan, an area rug that fully extends under all of the furniture is a great way to define the space. An 8’ x 10’ rug or larger is ideal. If your space is smaller or your larger pieces of furniture are up against the wall, having a rug just under the front two legs of your largest pieces will make the room look larger. A 5’ x 7’ rug or larger will usually work for this arrangement.
